Falkirk Wheel

- Falkirk

The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift in Scotland, connecting the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal.

It opened in 2002 and has reconnected the two canals for the first time since the 1930s.

The wheel has an overall diameter of 35 metres and consists of two opposing arms extending 15 metres beyond the central axle and taking the shape of a Celtic-inspired, double-headed axe.

- Edinburgh

The Grassmarket is a historic market place in the Old Town of Edinburgh.

The old market area is surrounded by pubs, clubs and local shops.

The Grassmarket was also a traditional place of public executions. A memorial near the site once occupied by the gibbet commemorates over 100 Covenanters who died on the gallows between 1661 and 1688 during the period known as The Killing Time.

Stirling Castle

- Stirling

Stirling Castle is one of the largest and most important castles, both historically and architecturally, in Scotland.

The castle sits atop Castle Hill, an intrusive crag, which forms part of the Stirling Sill geological formation.

The first record of Stirling Castle dates from around 1110, when a chapel was dedicated there by King Alexander I.
